Green Mountain Retreat 432 - 11 Serpens Trail

The “Green Mountain Retreat” eco house is the first sustainable spec residence in The Yellowstone Club, the world’s only private ski and golf community.  Following LEED “green” requirements in both the house and the extensive landscaping, our goal for the 1.6-acre lot 432 is to express sustainability in the vernacular of Montana through an original design that honors the mountain style found in the existing Yellowstone Club structures.

The clean, three-level, symmetrical plan that employs a four-foot structural module includes a unique, Richardson-style stone archway, inspired by the North Entrance to Yellowstone National Park, providing a graceful and protected entry to the building.  The 33% glazing of the entire building envelope yields superb views and energy-efficient passive heating.  Five stone chimneys and a double height great room at the center of the house accentuate the blending of the building with its natural setting.  An après-ski entry hall provides ample space for fireside entertainment.  Additionally, the design consists of three bedroom suites plus a garden level bunk-room and gaming area, and a guest wing above a two-car garage.

Our sustainable design maximizes the quality of the built environment while supporting the conservation of the natural world.  The landscape plan takes full advantage of the vegetation, the micro-environment and the natural setting of the Club while also capitalizing on the extraordinary views of surrounding mountains and meadows.
